Self-Care and Its Impact on Your Mental Health

Let’s discuss self-care and its impact on your mental health. In the past few years, we have heard the term self-care become more and more popular but what is self-care exactly? Is there any major benefit to taking the time to include this in your weekly routine?

Well first off self-care is exactly what it sounds like; to take care of one’s self. To get even more detailed, it is “the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health and wellness”. There are many reasons that you should practice self-care but one of the biggest reasons is because it assists with your overall mental health.

There are many ways that you can practice self-care and the beautiful thing about it is, the parameters of what your “self-care process” looks like are completely outlined by you and only you!

One of the main reasons why self-care helps with mental health is because it requires you to be consistently in tune with your needs physically and emotionally. This helps to make you more aware of the things in your environment that are triggers for your anxiety, anger, or discomfort. On the flip side, it also shines a light on activities that help enhance your mood and well-being.

According to ADAA.org, something as simple as taking a few deep breaths can be added throughout your day to help improve your mental health.

Believe it or not, a lot of people have a hard time doing even the simplest tasks for themselves or almost feel silly doing it alone. Let’s take a moment to take a deep breath together

Now, inhale and exhale. Don’t open your eyes just yet. Let that feeling of relaxation wash over you like the waves washing ashore”

Now, open your eyes. Feel a little more relaxed, right? It’s crazy how something so simple can make such a big impact and not everyone has the time to do a full meditation.

This breathing technique is an amazingly quick way to get a little meditation session in without taking too much time out of your daily routine. If you want to take your meditation to the next level, we recommend soaking in a nice hot bath using our SAVISH Sage (Bath Bomb) and utilizing the breathing technique outlined above.
